Scripture

Feel free to judge, but by the time you read this, Bree and I have had our Christmas tree up for at least a week. Yup. We’re those people. We celebrate Chrismast early. You know why? Because it is worth celebrating. When I was a kid, my parents would often get a tree a week or so before Christmas and it was down before New Years. Boom. Like a flash, Christmas was gone. I always felt like the celebration didn’t last long enough. So, now that I am an adult, Bree and I have decided we celebrate Christmas for a long time; usually starting in September. That way, there is a build up to the actual day of Christmas. There is anticipation and excitement throughout the entire holiday season.

That is the same reason why I love the minor prophets of the old testament. They begin the celebration of Jesus early! They are shouting, “Here He comes! Here He comes!” They are putting the tree up early, drinking pumpkin spice lattes the first day they come out, ordering the Thanksgiving turkey two weeks in advance. They are ready!

I want to be ready. I don’t want to wait until we are with God in Heaven to celebrate Him. I want to celebrate His promises now. I want to worship like He’s on His way – because He is. His plan is already in motion and we have been called to hold fast to that promise. We have been called to wait on Him. We have been called to celebrate because He has already won. Celebrate early. Celebrate now. God is coming. His son is here!

CLOSING PRAYER

God, You work in mysterious ways! You don’t look to the strongest or most famous to inherit the Kingdom! I believe You’ve called me to Your cause even if I don’t see the “action” all the time. Thank You for showing me that I can have impact even in the simplest ways.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
