Scripture

Five years ago, I was looking for a mentor. I had never had one and didn’t know how to find one. I attended a conference where the main speaker said, “if you don’t have a mentor, it is because you don’t want one. Nowadays, someone can mentor you through youtube or their content without you even knowing them.” Whether or not it was true, did not matter at the time. What mattered was that it opened up the possibilities of people who would be able to speak into my life. I started following different speakers, pastors, and authors. In any way I could, I would consume their content. I remember thinking of how much I would give to sit down and have a conversation with them. That was until years later, one of my mentors whom I knew confronted me and told me, “you would give a lot to have a conversation with them, but you have free access to have conversations with their source (God).” It was convicting, and it made me realize I had made an idol out of following these people.

Jehoram in eight short years of being king lost people’s respect and love for not following the Lord. He was sentenced to a curse, and when he died, he was not given the respect or the honor that was commonly given to kings. He followed the ways of other men, instead of the ways of the Lord. This had a higher cost on his life than what he had originally estimated.

It is easy to follow the people around us based on their achievements, their content, their position, etc. but the reality is following men is going to have a much higher cost than what you originally estimated. It doesn’t matter where you are today, you have access to the source. God is there and he does not just want you to follow Him, He wants you to be a friend and learn His ways. It does not matter in what position you are, as a follower of Jesus, you essentially need to follow Jesus.

Matthew 26: 29-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Prayer

HONOR GOD

He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.

Psalms 147:3‭-‬5 NASB

There is nothing to big or small for our loving God.

ASK GOD

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:6

When a child needs something, they normally don’t have the capacity to acquire what they desire. They will call out to their parents and ask because they know that the parent has the capacity. Let’s ask God with prayer knowing that He is capable of everything.

SUBMIT TO GOD

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

Resist temptation and pursue holiness that is pleasing to God.

CLOSING PRAYER

God purify me. Refine my heart and my mind to glorify You in everything I do. Do not let me fall to the left or to the right, but be my rock and keep me on the right path. I accept the peace that You have for me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
