Declaration:  I’m a WORSHIPPER of Jesus!

Psalm 48:1

Great is the Lord, and greatly He is to be praised!

Key Bible Verses:  Romans 12:1-2; Psalm 34:1-3; Psalm 103:1-5

Romans 12:1-2

12 And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.[b] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Psalm 34:1-3

I will praise the Lord at all times.
    I will constantly speak his praises.
I will boast only in the Lord;
    let all who are helpless take heart.
Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness;
    let us exalt his name together.

Psalm 103:1-5

Let all that I am praise the Lord;
    with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
Let all that I am praise the Lord;
    may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins
    and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
    and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
    My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Devotion

I grew up in Kansas City, and naturally, I was a Chiefs fan.  They had some good runs while I was a kid, so watching them was always fun.  I remember going over to a friend’s house on a Sunday night and urging him to turn the game on.  He said, “No, man.  We don’t watch the Chiefs in our house anymore.”  Shocked, I said, “Since when?  You guys LOVE the Chiefs!”  I chuckle to this day thinking of the sadness and despair in his voice when he confessed to me, “Because, man, my mom goes crazy when they lose.  Last Sunday, she yelled at me and cussed at my dad for no reason.”  She loved the Chiefs so much that her worship changed who she was.  Unfortunately, not for the better!

This is the magic (or to be more Christian, Spirit) behind worship!  It is a love so deep that when expressed, it changes us.  Paul declares in Romans 12:1-2, “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.  Let them be a living and holy sacrifice — the kind he will find acceptable.  This is truly the way to worship him.”  Become worship.  Let all that is in you desire all that He has, allowing it to change who you are because of who He is!

In worship, when we’ve become a sacrifice before God, we’re able to see Him more clearly and remind ourselves who He is and what He has done for us.  Psalm 103:1-5 clearly states, Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.  Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.  He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.  He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.  He fills my life with good things.  My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Worship reminds us who we are in Christ and what God has done for us through Christ.  Our relationship with God becomes stronger when this revelation becomes clearer.  And make no mistake, we’re all worshippers!  God created us to worship Him and give Him glory.  Worship isn’t just for great singers — it’s for all of God’s children.  Worship until it changes you.

Discipline: Don’t just worship on Sundays.  Everyday of week find a time to worship.  Right before your devotions, on your way to work, or before you go to sleep, turn on a worship song and declare God’s goodness in your life!
